In 1994 the U.S. Military relinquished a 1500 acre former Army base, the Presidio overlooking San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge to the U.S National Park Service. Since that time this very valuable piece of real estate has become home to Lucasfilm and Lucas Learning Ltd. including the new state of the art Digital Arts Center , the Gorbachev Foundation, the Thoreau Center for Sustainability,FEMA, the United Religions Initiative (URI), The Institute for Sustainable Development, Partnerships for Change, the Rudolf Steiner Foundation whose founder Rudolf Steiner became the head of the Austrian and German Esoteric societies in 1904, International Forum on Globalization funded by the Rockefeller Fund, and The Tides Center to name a few. Together they share a common crusade: to build a unified, earth-friendly global civilization based on "new" universal beliefs and values.

The Presidio Alliance composed of these organizations and others plan to turn the old Army base into a "global center for sustainability."

The United Nations Resource Center also calls it's home here. Actually, the Presidio had been linked to the UN since 1988, when it became part of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Program established in 1971 which now consists of 529 sites in 105 countries. In 2007 alone twenty-three new biosphere reserves join UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB)network.

Mikhail Gorbachev, who moved to the Presidio in 1993 established his Gorbachev Foundation here. The former communist head of the Soviet Union has also established another organization called Green Cross International to "ensure a just, sustainable and secure future for all by fostering a value shift and cultivating a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility in humanity's relationship with nature." Mr. Gorbachev is also one of the infamous authors of the Earth Charter.

And now you know how a former American Army base is being used to undermine the very freedoms that our forefathers died for.
